An Undated (probably late 1910s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Devil Dodger, the 1917 Clifford Smith silent romantic love triangle gambling cowboy western (a great story of a minister who goes to a western town hoping to clean it up, but the man who runs the gambling saloon wants to stop him, and there is a girl that both are involved with; at the film's climax, the minister heroically takes a bullet intended for the gambler, knowing that the girl would be happier with the gambler, and as he is dying, he marries them!) starring Roy Stewart, John Gilbert, Carolyn Wagner, John Lince, Anna Dodge, and George Willis. Note that John Gilbert was billed as "Jack Gilbert" in this movie (which is how he was billed in movies at this time). He had uncredited roles in 1915 and then had credited roles in 1916, but he still spent the next several years not achieving major stardom. One of his first major roles was in 1922 when he starred in an early version of "The Count of Monte Cristo". Of course, he would become a top star of the mid 1920s, and then he would co-star with a very young Greta Garbo, and the rest, as they say, is history! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was released by Triangle in 1917. This item is from the "Enterprise Distributing Corp". It is possible that this movie distributed the movie on a states rights basis on its first run in 1917, or it could be from a re-release soon after. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: good. There are scratches in Stewart's cheek (see our image). Otherwise, the slide is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
