An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, the classic 1949 John Ford romantic U.S. Cavalry cowboy western ("Epic Frontier Drama, John Ford's New and Finest Picture of the Fighting Cavalry!"; "Brave in every line! Thrilling in every scene! Romantic in every feature!") starring John Wayne, Joanne Dru, John Agar, Ben Johnson, Harry Carey Jr., Victor McLaglen, Mildred Natwick, George O'Brien, and Arthur Shields. Note that George O'Brien had been a World War I soldier and Navy boxing champion, and after he left the Navy, he worked as a stuntman, and in 1924, John Ford picked him to star in his historic epic "The Iron Horse". He became a major 1920s star, and worked consistently in the 1930s, and then he re-enlisted at the start of World War II, when he was over 40 years old! After the war, his old friend and mentor John Ford gave him parts in three westerns, including this one! Note that the song that is the basis of the title of this movie was written for this movie (and became very popular in the decades after), but variations of it as a song and poem had been around for four centuries! The first copyrighted version of this song was in 1917, and it was similar to this one. The yellow ribbon (originally "yeller") referred to the yellow neckerchief worn by members of the U.S. Cavalry in the 1800s, although earlier versions referred to different yellow ribbons. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Harold Von Schmidt Important Added Info: Note that the half-sheet posters from this classic John Wayne western are extremely rare! We have only once auctioned the style A half-sheet, and we have NEVER auctioned this style B before, and it is unfolded as well! Note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 2" tear near the center of the top border that has a piece of tape on the back of it (and a small part of the tape was folded over to the front). There are two 1" tears in the upper right border that just slightly extend into the edge of the image background. There is a 1/4" tear in the upper left border, and another one near the middle of the top border. There are some creases in the borders and a few faint scuffs scattered in the image. Other than the above, the poster is in really nice condition (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
