A Paperbacked Swiss Travel Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 39 1/4" [79 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Der Rheinfall - Chute du Rhin (literally translates to "The Rhine Falls" in German and French), the 1908 Swiss travel poster encouraging people to visit the The Rhine Falls and the towns of Neuhausen (now known as Neuhausen am Rheinfall) and Schaffhausen in Switzerland. The Rhine Falls is the largest waterfall in Europe and with its beautiful landscape and historical buildings, it offers a special kind of spectacle during the day, but is also a unique backdrop for nighttime light shows. The beginnings of the Rhine Falls light shows are closely related to tourism, and as early as the 19th century, hoteliers tried to offer their guests something extraordinary with Bengali fire productions. Since 1966 around 10,000 spectators watch the once yearly display of a combination of man-made art and natural beauty. This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some tiny stains above the title and between a couple of the letters that is either scuffing or a minor printing defect. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking.
