An Original Vintage Theatrical German Movie Herald (measures 5 3/4" x 8" [15 x 20 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Pour le Merite (literally translates to "For Merit"), the 1938 Karl Ritter German World War I (WWI) military airplane aviation romantic melodrama (about the Luftwaffe, the German air force) starring Paul Hartmann, Herbert A.E. Bohme, Albert Hehn, Paul Otto, and Fritz Kampers. Note that this is a "conditional" movie. This refers to around 40 movies that were made in Germany between 1933 and 1945, during the time the Nazis were in power in Germany. These movies are considered to be propaganda movies, which glorify the Nazi regime and their ideals. Immediately after World War II, a list of over 100 movies that were made between 1933 and 1945 was created, and those movies were not allowed to be shown at any time in Germany or Austria. Over the next decade, around 60 of those movies were taken off the list so that they are allowed to be shown (but rarely are), and those movies are known as "forbidden movies", because even though they can now be shown, they could not be shown at all in the years right after World War II. The remaining 40 or so movies (including this one) are known as "conditional" movies, because they are still not allowed to be shown in Germany or Austria, even in the present day, with the sole exception being when they are shown in an educational context, like at a university, and a speaker talks before and after the movie. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Schoner Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie (it has an overprinted 1939 date on the back, because the movie was still in first release in 1939)! German heralds from World War II or before are incredibly rare, far more rare than German programs. Also note that this 4-page German herald resembles a German program, but it has a blank space on the bottom of the back page, where a theater would imprint its name and possibly play dates. Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
