An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 29 3/4" x 41" [76 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Road to Glory, the 1936 Howard Hawks World War I (WWI) military romantic love triangle melodrama (scripted by William Faulkner) starring Fredric March, Warner Baxter, Lionel Barrymore, June Lang, and Gregory Ratoff. Note that the movie concerns two French officers in World War I and their love for the same woman, and a subplot concerning a very old enlisted man who turns out to be one of the officer's father. The movie was loosely adapted from the 1932 French movie "Le Croix des Bois". Also, "The Road to Glory" happens to be the name of Howard Hawks' very first directorial effort in 1926, but other than the title and director, there is no relationship between the two movies. Finally, note that the movie has a recurring theme where one of the officers has to keep giving a pep talk to a bunch of new recruits that he knows will suffer great casualties, and there are anti-war elements to the movie, and it seems certain that Stanley Kubrick was influenced by the plot from this classic movie when he made "Paths of Glory". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in the early days or 30x40s and 40x60s, they were printed with silkscreen images, and usually had a "full bleed" (no blank borders), and sometimes they did not measure exactly 30" x 40" or 40" x 60". They were printed on a very thin paper that chipped easily, and consequently, virtually none of these early silkscreen posters survive! This poster (which measures 29 3/4" x 41" [76 x 104 cm]) is one of these incredibly early 30x40s, and we have never seen another example of it. Condition: good. There are small tears around the edges of the poster, with paper loss in the right of the top border, and scattered in the bottom of the left and right borders. There are brown stains in the bottom right corner. The poster is extremely fragile and must be handled very carefully. However, it is an ideal candidate for professional restoration, and after it is properly backed, it will look quite nice! But please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
