Artist: Drew Struzan & Charles White Important Added Info: Note that this is the soundtrack promotional poster that was sent to record stores to promote the soundtrack to this movie in 1978 (while Star Wars was still in continuous first release). Star Wars stayed in theaters for an incredibly long time, and Lucasfilm decided to "refresh" it's marketing with a new poster. In the book Star Wars Art: Posters, Drew Struzan reveals that "Charles White III was commissioned to create this new poster. Charlie had seen my work and decided to call me in as a collaborator. I painted the portraits, while he painted the hardware. Lucasfilm liked the artwork, but there was not enough space left open for the "billing block". Necessity being the mother of invention, we decided to enlarge the dimensions of the art to increase the open space and give the work an early-twentieth-century, wild-posted [wilding] circus-style look. So it came about that it took the two of us to paint what would come to be known as the "Circus" poster for its throwback style." This means that the "defects" in the poster are intentional, and are part of the image, and are not actual defects! Note that this special "all Star Wars" auction began with a phone call from a VERY long time collector of Star Wars posters! He told us that he had reached a point in his life where he was wanting to sell his collection, and he asked if we could do it all at one time. Because he had 174 posters (including many of the most rare and desirable ones), we were happy to comply, but we told him that we would like to also add additional rare Star Wars posters from other collectors, and he agreed, and after we were consigned an additional 117 posters and related items, we have our auction! We asked the person who assembled the amazing collection of 174 posters in this auction to share with us a written history of how he came to assemble this amazing collection, and if you CLICK HERE, you will be taken to a separate page that shows you what he wrote for us! Condition: very good to fine. The poster has never been folded and it is in excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
