A Linenbacked German Advertising Poster (measures 20" x 30 1/4" [51 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Bilgeri Ski Ausrustung (literally translates to "Bilgeri Ski Equipment"), the 1910s German advertising poster promoting Bilgeri-Werk products, and featuring Carl Kunst art of skiing equipment with a beautiful snow-covered alpine background showing the world famous Matterhorn. In 1902 Colonel George Bilgeri, an officer in the Austrian army, began large-scale production of skis. This poster is highlighting Bilgeri's newest improvements (new bindings and the use of two poles). Note that Carl Kunst was a Munich artist often called a predecessor of 1960's pop art color use, and the use of limited color (golden yellow against purple tones) and simplified naturalism seen on this poster are a direct influence from the Munich School, and tie in very closely to more contemporary styles. Artist: Carl Kunst Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a few tiny creases and tiny tears in the top border. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
