An Original Vintage French Movie Pressbook (measures 9 3/4" x 10 3/4" [25 x 27 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More) Les bas-fonds (released in the U.S. in 1937 as "Lower Depths"), the 1936 Jean Renoir French romantic crime melodrama (based on the play by Maxim Gorky; about a wealthy man who loses his money and goes to live in the slums of Paris and he watches the lives of those around him, including a romance between a young man and a young woman) starring Jean Gabin, Suzy Prim, Louis Jouvet, Jany Holt, Vladimir Sokoloff, and Robert Le Vigan. Note that this movie was re-made in 1957 by Akira Kurosawa as "Donzoko", and both adaptations are excellent movies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J.R. Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and three interior 2-page spreads from this pressbook (which show the posters that were created for the first release this movie). UPDATED 09/06/2012: Note that we initially listed this as a French Program but since it contains images of the posters available for this film, we believe it is more accurate to call it a French Pressbook and have updated the auction accordingly. Condition: good to very good. The cover of the pressbook is completely separated along the spine and there is some separation at the top and bottom of the spine in the interior pages. There is a vertical crease down the center of the pressbook from it having been oddly folded at one time an there is some tattering and creasing around the edges.
