And the girl came with the key."; "He had the life expectancy of a match..."; "He was the skipper of an unarmed seagoing tug assigned to bring damaged ships back through the U-Boat-swarming waters of The Western Approaches to Hell. His was the War at its deadliest... Each day he prepared himself to die... But at night he took the key and locked death and danger out... Nightly he took Stella in his arms and locked out the memory of the men who had found in her the same haven in Hell before him... He even locked out the shadow of the man who was waiting for 'THE KEY'"; "Based on the novel 'Stella' by Jan De Hartog"; "Written for the screen and produced by Carl Foreman"; a VERY unusual movie about British tugboat captains in World War II; one of them suspects he is about to die in battle, and he gives another captain a key to his apartment, and when the man dies and his friend goes to the apartment, he discovers a beautiful woman living there, who he has also "inherited"; he then passes on the apartment and the woman to two more captains!) starring William Holden, Sophia Loren, Trevor Howard, Kieron Moore, Bernard Lee, Bryan Forbes, Beatrix Lehmann, Noel Purcell, and Oscar Homolka. This is a completely forgotten movie from legendary director Carol Reed, and it deserves to be rediscovered! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Actor Carl Mohner originally was in the movie, but his scenes were deleted just prior to release. Since the posters had already been printed, someone taped over Mr. Mohner's credit on each poster and lobby card, one by one! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
