A Linenbacked Advertising Poster (measures 28 3/4" x 43 3/4" [73 x 111 cm]) (Learn More)

You Don't Have to be Jewish to Love Levy's Real Jewish Rye, the 1960s and 1970s ad campaign created by Doyle Dane Berbach, Judy Protas and William Taubin. The campaign (which shows many people who are of various ethnicities that are clearly not Jewish!) was started in 1961 to promote the bread to a wider audience, and the posters appeared mainly in New York's subways. As a result of the ads, sales of Levy's bread soared, and the campaign was admired by people as varied as Walter Winchell and Malcolm X.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this advertising poster! We are also currently auctioning a different style of this poster in a separate auction.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases and tears around the edges, with small paper loss and some smudges and small stains in the white background areas, and some creases and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
