An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charming Sinners, the 1929 Robert Milton romantic love triangle infidelity marriage melodrama ("Is this the new idea in marriage?"; from the story by W. Somerset Maugham; about a woman who discovers her husband is cheating on her with her best friend, and she does not get angry, but takes up with HIS best friend, which causes her husband to rethink matters and return to her) starring Ruth Chatterton, Clive Brook, William Powell, Mary Nolan, and Laura Hope Crews. Note that Ruth Chatterton had been a major star on Broadway who was brought to Hollywood to make sound movies, and she was that rare actress who was a top billed star from her very first movie! Also note that, as usual in his early roles, William Powell played the best friend who betrays his friend. It would not be for a couple more years before Powell began playing the romantic lead in movies, but once he did, he became a major star! Finally, note that this movie was made at the time when all studios were transitioning from silent movies to sound, and because there were still a lot of theaters that had not yet purchased sound equipment and were still showing silent movies, Paramount had the idea of making their new productions in both "sound" and "silent" versions, and they issued one-sheets for each version (with a notation at the bottom for which version it was). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1929 movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a window card and a title card (and that was 18 years ago, and it may be that it was this very card being reconsigned to us) until we received this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There are some light creases in the upper part of Powell's jacket, mostly only affecting the black areas, and there are a few faint scuffs in the lower part of his jacket. There are a few minor creases in parts of the blank borders. There is small surface paper loss on the back of each corner, where tape was roughly removed, but it has no effect on the front, and otherwise, the card is in nice condition!
