Date Sold 6/12/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded Autographed Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Reece "Goose" Tatum was a black African-American Negro league baseball and basketball player from the 1930s to the 1960s. In 1942, he was signed to the Harlem Globetrotters and had an 11-year career with the team (and he was their top star during that time, nicknamed "Clown Price of Basketball"). He later formed his own team (known as the Harlem Road Kings and Harlem Magicians) with former Globetrotters player Marques Haynes. He is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. Tatum's number 50 is retired by the Globetrotters. He passed away in 1967 at the age of 45. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been personally autographed (signed) by Goose Tatum! Goose Tatum was one of the biggest stars ever of the Harlem Globetrotters. In the 1950s he split off from the Globetrotters and formed his own touring team called the Harlem Road Kings. They were very similar to the Globetrotters. For this particular performance, which was from January 12th 1957 in Houston, Texas, the team that Tatum's team was playing was called the New York Rens, and the coach of that team was baseball legend Leroy Satchel Paige, and Paige is pictured on this window card! In addition, the famous black music group the Ink Spots performed a thirty minute halftime show, and they too are pictured on this great window card (which is absolutely an original window card from 1957). Our consignor's father was the accountant for this very event! He was with his father after the show, and when Mr. Tatum came to get his share of the receipts (in cash!), our consignor asked him to sign this window card, and Mr. Tatum kindly did, and our consignor has had it for the past 65 years, until he has now consigned it to us! He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are 100% certain that this signature is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
