Date Sold 3/4/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-release Vintage Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Television Still (Learn More) Tarzan and the Slave Girl, the 1950 Lee Sholem Africa romantic jungle action adventure thriller ("The One and Only Tarzan in his most Thrilling Adventure!"; "The one and only Tarzan defies death to free captive beauties!"; "Thrills by the score in this Mightiest of Tarzan adventures... when marauding henchmen of an evil jungle prince kidnap lively maidens for his harem!"; "See Jane and the slave girl entombed alive! See poison-killing Wadis who look like the trees! See the frenzied fury of the death dance! See the fight for life at the pit of lions! See wicked pagan pleasures in a dazzling forest palace! See Tarzan's elephant friends destroy a granite building!"; "Based on the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Lex Barker (in the title role as Tarzan), Vanessa Brown (as Jane), Robert Alda, Denise Darcel (in the title role as the half-breed "slave girl"), Arthur Shields, Hurd Hatfield, and Anthony Caruso. Note that you might not recognize the name of "Vanessa Brown", who was intended to be in a series of Tarzan movies after this one, but who left the series after this, likely because she got married to a Hollywood plastic surgeon. She was born in Austria as "Smylla Brind", and she appeared on stage and in movies in the 1940s as "Vanessa Brind". After she married, she became a panelist on TV quiz shows, but she did some more stage and film work, but she divorced and remarried, and had two children, which kept her from a full time movie career (in 1956, she became very active in politics, serving as a delegate to the Democratic Convention). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this TV still has been personally autographed (signed) by THREE people: Lex Barker, Vanessa Brown, AND Denise Darcel! Note that this is one of many items that was consigned to us by legendary Tarzan collector Phil Petras. Mr. Petras was one of the greatest Tarzan fans ever, and he became good friends with several of the actors who played Tarzan, and over many decades, starting in the 1970s, he would meet with actors and actresses who had appeared in Tarzan movies, sometimes on the sets of films, and sometimes at fan gatherings. Prior to his recent passing, he consigned most of his collection to us, and we are currently auctioning many of his autographed items, sometimes from actors who played Tarzan or Jane, and sometimes from actors who appeared in one or more Tarzan movies (but the items we are auctioning may or may not be from their Tarzan films). Mr. Petras naturally did not have "certificates of authenticity", but we feel certain that the autograph on this item, and every other item we are currently auctioning from his collection, is surely authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
