An Original Vintage Unfolded Window Card Music Concert Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Mitzi Shelton, the 1932 music poster ("Mitzi Shelton and her 11 flashes of music"; "America's finest and most entertaining all girl radio and record orchestra"; "Direct from RKO circuit") advertising a touring musical show. The group was founded in 1932 by Mitzi Shelton, who said she hired "talented clean wholesome girls - who don't drink and don't date! They just live for music". Mitzi Shelton was the conductor, Mary Jane St. John played the piano and accordion, Julia Greenfield was first saxophone and blues singer, Carolyn Morgan was third saxophone, Lillyn Kemper was tenor saxophone, Vivian Bordenbaum was first trumpet, Monzelle Bruce was second trumpet, Cathyleen Crawford was trombone, Inez Satley was bass horn, Dorothy Bruce was drums, and Shannon Stanley was a dancer. It sounds like the all-girl band in "Some Like It Hot" could have been based on this very band, and they were set around the same time!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card. That example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned!

Condition: fair. The card has staining scattered throughout, but much more around the edges and in the bottom corners, where there is also some paper loss. The card is completely unrestored, and certainly can be brought back to its former glory through restoration, and since the card's primary defects are stains, it would likely requite a relatively small amount of paint restoration. But bear in mind its defects and look at our super-sized image prior to bidding.
