An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Return of Chandu (The Magician), the 1934 Ray Taylor black magic fantasy horror serial sequel ("He's back! The Master of Magic and Thrills"; "with a Distinguished Cast") starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Chandu), Maria Alba, Murdock MacQuarrie, Phyllis Ludwig, and Clara Kimball Young. Note that Chandu the Magician was a radio show that started airing in Los Angeles in 1931, and went nationwide the following year. That was also when a movie adaptation, called Chandu the Magician, was made. Two years later, this sequel, The Return of Chandu, was made, and this time, Bela Lugosi played the lead role, after having a supporting role in the prequel. The show went off the air in 1936. It was revived in 1948 as a 15 minute show and ran for two years. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this three-sheet, and that was 33 years ago, when it sold for $4,180! Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). There is a foreign stamp in the upper left green background and in the lower right next to the title. There is paper loss in the left of the top border extending into a couple of the letters. There are small tears in the rest of the borders. The poster is fragile and has other defects. However, the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will display well, and will likely need little paint restoration within the image.
