Date Sold 4/3/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Inspiration (released in some countries as "Yvonne"), the 1931 Clarence Brown Paris model romantic prostitution melodrama ("A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer All Talking Picture"; based on the novel 'Sapho' by Alphonse Daudet; about a French streetwalker who finds true love with a handsome young man, but she leaves him because of her past, and then she returns to him, but he learns about her past and leaves her, and that makes him afraid she will kill herself, and he returns to her, but then she leaves him again!) starring Greta Garbo, Robert Montgomery, Lewis Stone, Marjorie Rambeau, and Judith Vosselli. Note that there was a French language version of this movie filmed simultaneously, but with a different cast (with Mary Marquet in the lead role), but that movie was made during the time MGM and Pathe had a co-production deal, and it fell apart at exactly this time, and Pathe sued MGM over this film and won, so it was not released until 1934, three years after it was made. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this it is difficult to find first release posters from this title. We auctioned a different example of this window card nine years ago, but otherwise, we have never auctioned a first release U.S. poster! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: fair to good. The poster is fragile and has darkened. It has staining scattered across the bottom, with two tears in the bottom border, and one in the left border. It has paper loss in the upper left border, but fortunately, it only affects a black line and blank white background. There is staining in the top 2" of the card, in the play dates area. Obviously, this window card has REALLY major condition issues, but it is extremely rare and certainly it can be "rescued" by a talented restorer. But please bear this expense in mind (and look at our super-sized image) before placing a bid on this window card. Learn More about condition grades
