An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) In Old Chicago (released in some countries simply as "Chicago"), the 1938 Henry King Illinois historical big city disaster melodrama ("Never-To-Be-Forgotten! The screen unfolds its mightiest panorama of the struggle and triumph... The life and loves... The heartbreak and happiness... In one of the world's greatest metropolises...!"; "Based on a story by Niven Busch"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; about two brothers, one "good" and one "very bad", and the two women they are involved with, and it is all set in the months leading up to the famous 1871 Chicago fire) starring Tyrone Power Jr., Alice Faye, Don Ameche, Alice Brady (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Andy Devine, Brian Donlevy, Madame Sul-Te-Wan, Phyllis Brooks, Tom Brown, Sidney Blackmer, Berton Churchill, June Storey, and Paul Hurst. Note that producer Darryl F. Zanuck reportedly wanted to hire Jean Harlow at MGM to star in this epic, but tragically, she passed away. But she was replaced with Alice Faye, and this was her big break that made her a major star. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the top 7 1/2" of the window card had been trimmed off, slightly unevenly. It affected Ameche's hair and a tiny bit of his forehead, and the very top of Power's hair, and the head of the dancing girl in the image at top left, and all of the burning buildings. There were pinholes, tears, and areas of paper loss in the other three borders. The rest of the image had minor scuffs and smudges. Overall, the window card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. A really talented restorer (likely the late great Igor Edelman) replaced the missing top area (both the blank area and the missing top potion of the image, which was around 2" at the top of the image), and he did a really expert job. The poster displays really well and I think few collectors would realize the extent of the restoration, even looking fairly close up. From any reasonable viewing distance, the poster displays great. But bear in mind this significant restoration before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
