An Original Vintage Linenbacked French [War] Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 47" [79 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Journee Du Poilu (roughly translates to "Days of the Soldier"), the 1915 French World War I (WWI) Home Front poster encouraging people to donate to the French war efforts. Poilu (which literally meant "hairy") was also French military slang for a soldier, and many posters were created to promote these fundraising days. Artist: Theophile Alexandre Steinlen Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss and small tears on parts of some folds. It had a diagonal tear to the left of the ear of the soldier at right. It had some uneven darkening and some tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
