ROARING TWENTIES ('39) ROARING TWENTIES ('39) WC, regular OR search current auctions Auction History Result 1d044 ROARING TWENTIES WC '39 James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Priscilla Lane, Raoul Walsh Date Sold 5/6/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 19" [36 x 48 cm]) (Learn More) The Roaring Twenties, the classic 1939 Raoul Walsh New York City post-World War I (WWI) Prohibition romantic love triangle organized-crime bootlegger gangster melodrama (based on the story 'The World Moves On' by Mark Hellinger; about three men who get out of the army after World War I, and two of them go into the bootlegging business, and they achieve great success, and one of them has an unrequited love for a woman!) starring James Cagney, Priscilla Lane, Humphrey Bogart, Gladys George, Jeffrey Lynn, Frank McHugh, Paul Kelly, and Al Hill NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 19" [36 x 48 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good. The card has many scuffs and tiny stains scattered throughout. There was paper loss near the middle of the left border (slightly extending into the orange background) and small circular paper loss near the middle of the right blank border, and a V-shaped tear near the center of the credits, slightly affecting the second "E" of "GEORGE" and the "LY" of "LYNN". There was a tiny bit of paper loss in the right of the bottom blank border. Someone took paper from another card that matched this card pretty well and taped it to those areas of paper loss from the back, and they did a pretty good job, because it is not very noticeable. They attempted no other restoration to the card. The stains and smudges throughout the card are definitely noticeable, but I still think many people would enjoy this card displayed on their wall just as it is (because the stains and smudges are not that distracting from a reasonable viewing distance, and they clearly establish that this is an original 1939 window card!). Of course, a restorer could perform some or a lot of restoration, but that will be the choice of the new owner. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have further restoration performed! Learn More about condition grades
