Date Sold 5/14/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) A Farewell to Arms, the 1932 Frank Borzage World War I (WWI) military romantic melodrama ("Here is Ernest Hemingway's greatest Novel!"; "Unforgettable story of an undaunted love"; "A great book! A greater picture!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway; about an American ambulance driver and an English nurse falling in love in France during World War I) starring Helen Hayes, Gary Cooper, Adolphe Menjou, Jack La Rue, and Mary Philips. Note that in 1951, Warner Bros. updated the story to World War II, and did not pay for the rights, so the movie was called "A Force of Arms". In 1957, it was remade under the original title with Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note also that this six-sheet was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Finally, note this six-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with six-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded six-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 30", so they cost more to send than regularly folded six-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Condition: good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). The poster is fragile and has some tears and separation on parts of many folds with a few small areas of paper loss. Someone performed some amateur restoration to the poster, including removing tape from the back, but largely it is unrestored. It certainly can be linenbacked and will display well afterwards, but please bear this in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
