An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 1/2" x 40" [37 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) The Quarterback, the 1926 Fred C. Newmeyer silent college university football sports screwball comedy ("Story by W.O. McGeehan and William Slavens McNutt"; "Football game supervised by 'Hurry Up' Yost"; a wacky story of a man who is quarterback of his college football team in 1899, and they lose to their rival, and he vows to stay in school until they beat the rival, and 27 years later, he is still in school, because they have never beaten the rival, and his son is a great football player who can finally let his father leave school, but he doesn't seem eligible to play, although everything works out in the end) starring Richard Dix, Esther Ralston, Harry Beresford, David Butler, and Robert W. Craig. Note that Charles Starrett and Barton MacLane were among the many, many people who had uncredited parts as some of the football players. We don't know if any of the other people who played football players went on to fame, but there probably are at least a few! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Australian daybill. The buyer of that poster had it linenbacked and has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had many creases and scuffs scattered throughout, but mostly in solid colored areas and not in faces or in the title. It had play dates handwritten in the top area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
