An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Big Store, the 1941 Charles Reisner screwball comedy ("Gorgeous Girls! Uproarious Fun!"; "The Big Musical Show!"; "'Let there be wine, women and song. On second thought... Never mind the wine and the song!'"; about a singer who inherits a department store, and she hires a detective to protect her from its crooked manager) starring The Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx [as Wolf J. Flywheel], Chico Marx [as Ravelli], and Harpo Marx [as Wacky]), Tony Martin, Virginia Grey, Margaret Dumont, Douglass Dumbrille, Marion Martin, Henry Armetta, and Ann Demitrio. Note that the Marx Brothers are billed as the "Marx Bros." on the advertising. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Al Hirschfeld Important Added Info: Note that there are several classic MGM movies that were re-released at some time between their original 1930s or 1940s first release, and their 1962 re-release (in 1962, MGM did a major re-release of many of their most classic movies). These re-releases are two-color, but they are not the 1962 re-releases, and they do not have any NSS or litho information at all, so it is impossible to date them. My best guess is that they date from the late 1940s or early 1950s (but surely from after World War II). There are also other MGM re-releases that are sepia only, and those DO have litho numbers, and those seem to date from during World War II. All three of these re-releases seem to be printed from the original plates. If anyone has more information about any of these re-releases, or this one in particular, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top two crossfolds, and some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical foldline, and in the right half of the top foldline. There was minor wear on the other foldlines and some pinholes, smudges, and tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see some signs of the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
