An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Young Diana, the 1922 Albert Capellani & Robert G. Vignola silent science fiction (sci-fi) romantic fantasy melodrama (about a girl who is in love with a sailor, but her father wants her to "marry well", and a mysterious scientist, Dr. Dimetrius tricks her into thinking that the sailor has run off with a Lady, because the scientist wants her for himself, and she spurns the scientist, but she never marries; but 20 years later, she meets the scientist, and learns the truth, and he uses his invention to turn back the clock and make her 20 years younger, and she finds the sailor, and he offers to desert his noble wife, but she refuses; she then wakes up to find it was all a dream, and she marries the sailor!; based on the novel by Marie Corelli) starring Marion Davies (in the title role as Diana May), Macklyn Arbuckle, Forrest Stanley, Gypsy O'Brien, and Pedro de Cordoba. Note that this is a fascinating forgotten movie! Not only does it have a lot of science fiction in it, but the set decoration (by Joseph Urban) is supposed to have been wonderful, and the scenes in the doctor's laboratory are especially good. The transformation scene where Davies becomes younger is supposed to be on a par with the transformation of Maria into the robot in Metropolis! The only drawback is the "waking from a dream" ending, which was necessary to produce the obligatory "happy ending". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
