An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Jesse James, the classic 1939 Henry King Missouri biographical outlaw cowboy western ("You won't get a cash reward. But you'll see the greatest picture in years - when you see Jesse James"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; a highly fictionalized biography of the James brothers, and if you only saw this movie, you would think they were really nice heroic misunderstood guys who happened to rob a few banks and trains!; note that the movie ends with Jesse's brother Frank still alive, obviously so that 20th Century Fox could make their 1941 sequel, "The Return of Frank James"!) starring Tyrone Power Jr. (in the title role as Jesse James), Henry Fonda (as Frank James), Nancy Kelly, Randolph Scott, Henry Hull, Slim Summerville, J. Edward Bromberg, Brian Donlevy, John Carradine (as Bob Ford), Donald Meek, John Russell (as Jesse James Jr.), and Jane Darwell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this 1939 first release insert before! Not only that, any first release posters larger than a window card from this movie are extremely rare. It has been 15 years since we auctioned any posters over a window card from this classic western. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some pinholes and tiny tears around the edges. It had a diagonal crease in the top right corner entering into the top of the "R". It had a diagonal crease starting in the right border and running through the right end of Scott's mouth, and running through the bottom of Darwell's credit. It had a few faint smudges and tiny stains scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
