Note that this movie was part of a film series featuring the character Rat Anheim (played by different actors throughout the series). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Paul Scheurich Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have never auctioned before! It seems to be from the Tauentzienpalast in Berlin, where the film premiered, but we can't say for certain (if anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here). Also, note that this poster has a fascinating history! It comes from the collection of Dr. Hans Sachs, a Berlin dentist who had a passion for posters, and his collection included works by dozens of famous artists. In 1938, he was arrested during Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) and sent to the Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg concentration camp, and his collection was stolen by order of Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Reich Minister of Propaganda. Sachs was released after 17 days and he fled with his family to London and then to the United States. After the war, the West German government told him the collection had been destroyed by the Russians. But in 1966, many were rediscovered in East Berlin. Hans Sachs passed away in 1974, but his family was finally ruled to be the lawful owner of the remaining posters in 2009. Guernsey's auction house in New York held sales of the posters in 2013, and our consignor purchased this poster from the January 19th auction. You can read more about Dr. Hans Sachs and his collection here.
