An Original Vintage Unfolded East German Stage Play Poster (measures 32" x 45 1/4" [81 x 115 cm]) (Learn More) Der Kaukasische Kreidekreis (literally translates to "The Caucasian Chalk Circle"), the 1986 East German stage play production (of the play by Bertolt Brecht, with music by Paul Dessau) presented by the Berliner Ensemble. Note that the Berliner Ensemble is a German theatre company established by playwright Bertolt Brecht and his wife, Helene Weigel in 1949 in Berlin, East Germany. Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet from the 1920s to 1956. He was the main proponent of the genre named epic theater. During the Nazi period and World War II he lived in exile, first in Scandinavia and then in the United States. Returning to East Berlin after the war, he established the theatre company Berliner Ensemble with his wife and long-time collaborator, actress Helene Weigel.
