An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More)

Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Volker (released in the U.S. as "The Olympiad"), the 1938 Leni Riefenstahl (movie actress who became a director for Hitler and made "Triumph of the Will" and this film) German Olympic sports documentary featuring documentary footage of the Olympic events, which included the top athletes from Germany, but also from the other competing countries, including the black athletes from the U.S., most notably Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalfe. Adolf Hitler appears in the movie, and there are additional sequences of athletes performing (some in the nude), which were filmed especially for this movie. Note that this documentary on the 1936 Berlin Olympics was so massive that it was released in two parts (the first part was "Olympia Part I: Festival of the Nations", and the second part was "Olympia Part II: Festival of Beauty"; so technically this movie should be referred to as "Festival of the Nations", but because most people know it under the title of "Olympia" or "Olympiad", we refer to it in that way).

Important Added Info: NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN ALMOST EVERY OTHER GERMAN OLYMPIAD PROGRAMS WE HAVE PREVIOUSLY AUCTIONED! This one is the same in every way except every page has solid blue borders on the left and right where the others have the same grey color in that area that is on the frame bordering the cover. A knowledgeable collector tells us that it is indeed from the first release but he is not sure why it is printed with the borders (it is possible that this program is from an early printing or perhaps a premiere). The collector tells us that these movies were never re-released until after World War II, at which time the size of the programs changed, so the fact that these are large programs ensures that they are from the original 1938 release. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. In any event, please do not bid on this program unless you can accept the uncertainty about the blue borders. Also note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the eight pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are four pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended).

Condition: very good to fine.
