6p0226 COLUMBIA PICTURES 1953 campaign book 1953 made to look like a souvenir photo album!

An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 39 pages) (Learn More)

Pictures from Columbia, the 1953 Columbia Pictures campaign book, sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Columbia movies. The entire book is professionally bound with a spiral binding, which allows you to lay the book open flat without damaging the pages (something most other yearbooks do not have). Note that for this year, Columbia hit on the idea of making the campaign book look like a souvenir photo album, with the ads for the movies designed to look like black & white photos that had been "hinged" onto the pages (this also gave them an excuse to use black & white photographic images, instead of full-color art, which let them save on production and printing costs!). Some of the movies advertised include Affair in Trinidad (Rita Hayworth), The Juggler (Kirk Douglas), The Member of the Wedding (Julie Harris & Ethel Waters), Strange Fascination and One Girl's Confession (Cleo Moore), a re-release of Ladies of the Chorus (it is very rare that any campaign book mentions a re-release movie, but Marilyn Monroe was HUGE in 1953!), Gene Autry ("6 top notch outdoor productions"), and much more!
