First Man Into Space, the 1959 Robert Day science fiction (sci-fi) rocket astronaut horror thriller ("It leaps ahead of the headlines!"; "The Picture That Leaps Ahead of the Headlines! Never before! The First picture that takes You into space! MGM presents the Astounding Drama of what happens when a fearless test pilot leaves his sweetheart and friends to dare the unknown!"; "The most dangerous and daring mission of all time!"; "You read about them! Facts like these come to life! Now you see them in action, those who dare the unknown."; "'He's asking for intercontinental priority!'"; "'If he weren't piloting Y-13, he'd risk his life in something else. He had to find his own brand of danger!'"; "'He'll orbit the earth for the rest of his life!'"; "She knew that her greatest rival was his burning ambition to be The First Man Into Space!"; "Just released from top secret! You have never seen anything like this before because the actual scenes have just been released from top secret."; "What do you think? Who can say what strange mysteries await the daring pioneers who venture into hitherto forbidden and uncharted regions of the outer world."; "First motion picture to lift the veil, foresee the future in a spectacular drama of the first man in history to be rocketed into the terrifying unknown of outer space!") starring Marshall Thompson, Marla Landi, Bill Edwards, Bill Nagy, Robert Ayres, and Sheree Winton (as the "nurse at blood bank"). Note that there is a REAL mystery to the German release of this movie! For the "Das Neue" program, they put an image of scantily clad Sheree Winton (who played the nurse at the blood bank) on the front cover and a second image of her on the back cover! This was not true of the other German program from "Film Buhne", and she is not featured on any other advertising we have seen! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info:
Note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald which is pictured next to the pressbook below.
Note that this pressbook is part of an amazing collection of 456 different horror/sci-fi pressbooks (our items #5387 through #5842)! The collector who assembled this collection did so over a span of several decades, and to duplicate it would surely take at least that long, if one started today. But on October 30th, every one of these pressbooks will go to a new owner, as all are being sold with NO reserve. Note that this collection spans the years from 1950 to 1972, and just about every single 1950s and 1960s horror/sci-fi movie is represented here. Also note that we have listed them in DATE order (first by year, and then alphabetically within years). This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire rare pressbooks that almost never are offered for sale!

Condition: very good to fine. Note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Since pressbooks were INTENDED to be cut up (the theater owners would cut out the newspaper ads to run in their local papers). It is very difficult to find a pressbook that has NOT been cut, and that ads greatly to their value!

folded in half at one time; minor creases, smudges, and scuffs throughout the pressbook (more so along the foldline and spine); minor separation in the bottom of the spine as well as a few tiny tears around the edges of the pressbook
