An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Tom Brown's School Days, the 1940 Robert Stevenson juvenile rugby sports boarding school melodrama ("The Magic of the Screen Now Gives You - Tom Brown's School Days"; "Thomas Hughes' unforgettable novel of student life at Rugby movied in all its world of action, fun, excitement, and drama!") starring Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Freddie Bartholomew, James Lydon (Jimmy Lydon; in the title role as Tom Brown), Josephine Hutchinson, Billy Halop (one of the original "Dead End Kids"), Gale Storm, and Hughie Green NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restorated at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had small paper loss at each crossfold and creases and tears down the vertical foldline. There were many small pinholes scattered down the right side of the poster and across the bottom of the image. There was writing on the back of the poster that has bled through in the very top center of the image. The person who backed the poster did their best, but you can see many of the defects, even from a distance away. If I owned this poster, I would want to have it re-backed.
