An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Golden Eye, the 1948 William Beaudine Texas Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character") starring Roland Winters ("as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"; as Tommy Chan), Wanda McKay, Tim Ryan, Evelyn Brent, and Ralph Dunn. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before (the very same poster has been consigned to us twice before and not is has been reconsigned to us for this auction, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned)! Condition: good to very good. The poster has darkened somewhat with age. It has a small area of creases and tiny tears in the lower left blank border and minor creases, scuff marks, and smudges throughout the poster (more so around the edges, and only very slightly in any of the figures). There are some small tears around the edges of the poster and in the image of Moreland at lower right (some are repaired with tape from the back). Learn More about condition grades
