An Original Vintage Stage Play Souvenir Program Book (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 18 pages) (Learn More) Carnival In Flanders, the 1953 Preston Sturges Broadway stage play production (of the classic French movie "La Kermesse Heroique" by Jacques Feyder, Charles Spack, and Bernard Zimmer, which was adapted by Preston Sturges) starring Dolores Gray, John Raitt, Roy Roberts, Jimmy Alex, and John Aristides. Note that this play was originally written by George Oppenheimer and Herbert Fields, with lyrics by Johnny Burke, music by James Van Heusen, and directed by Brentaigne Windust. After less than thrilling previews, the play was taken to California, where legendary film director Preston Sturges was called in to rewrite it, and also to replace Windust as director. However, when the play opened on Broadway, it was a major flop, only running for six performances! The program book must have been printed before Sturges got involved, because he is not mentioned anywhere in it! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
