An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 17 1/4" x 54 3/4" [44 x 139 cm]) (Learn More) Cleo Hovel was an artist and advertising designer from the 1950s to 1970. He is best-known for his creation (alongside former Disney animator Howard Smith) of the original Hamm's Beer bear mascot while working at the Campbell-Mithun advertising agency (although there is some contention about who was involved). Other works include the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant, Charlie the Tuna, and the Schlitz beer logo of "When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer". He passed away in 1970 at the age of 49. Artist: Cleo Hovel Important Added Info: Note that a knowledgeable collector tells us that this 1977 poster was created from a design that Cleo Hovel created in 1958 when he was with the Campbell-Mithun advertising agency. Cleo passed away in 1970 and it was created under the authority of his wife Charlotte. In 1999, Advertising Age Magazine called the Hamm's Bear the key element of one of the best ad campaigns in the last 100 years, and a statue of the mascot was erected in a St. Paul, Minnesota in 2005. Note that item is very long, but because it is not very wide, it can be sent in a regular size tube. However, it can NOT be combined with other rolled posters, and must be either sent by itself (or combined with other items that are exactly like this). Please bear this in mind before bidding on this poster. Condition: very good to fine. The poster is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
