An Original Vintage Autographed Deluxe 7 5/8" x 9 5/8" Movie Still (total with mat measures 13 3/4" x 15" [35 x 38 cm]) (Learn More) Marilyn Monroe is one of the greatest larger-than-life movie stars ever of the 1950s, and surely the greatest sex symbol of all time! She appeared in several memorable movies including: Some Like It Hot, The Prince & the Showgirl, All About Eve, The Asphalt Jungle, The Misfits, The Seven Year Itch, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Monkey Business, and Niagara. The last film that she worked on was Something's Got To Give in 1962. 20th Century Fox blamed Marilyn for the production being behind schedule, and fired her in June (the film was never completed). In August, she was found dead in her home from an apparent drug overdose, and her death was ruled a suicide (though there are theories that foul play was involved, and even in 2024, many people do not feel it was an "accidental" death). Important Added Info: Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 5/8" x 9 5/8" (its right and bottom blank borders were trimmed off). Also note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Marilyn Monroe (she wrote: "To one of the dearest people I know. Thanks to you. Always, Marilyn")! We do not know who this still was autographed to. It is definitely a vintage still and on the back of it are three words written in pen and the last word appears to definitely be "SNYDER" (and Marilyn's makeup man in the 1950s to her death was named "Allen 'Whitey' Snyder"), but the other two words are very difficult to make out. If anyone knows more about this still, please e-mail us and we will post it here. About the Collection this Item Comes From Note that this item (and 40 others we are auctioning this week, each in its own auction) was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, he was approached by an elderly man named Sterling H. Bond, who had collected autographs for many years (starting in the early 1930s), and who sold the dealer his entire collection. Bond had tracked down many important Hollywood celebrities and obtained autographed items (often personalized to him), and he also had autographs from celebrities who were not in the film business (including famous politicians!). The dealer was so impressed with this collection that rather than sell it item by item, he began collecting autographs himself, sending celebrities items by Registered Mail which they then autographed and returned to him! He also purchased a few autographed items from top autograph dealers of the 1970s and 1980s. Now, decades later, the dealer has consigned these autographed items to us. So all of these 41 autographed items we are auctioning were either obtained by long time collector Sterling H. Bond, or were obtained by this memorabilia dealer, and we feel certain that the autograph on this item is authentic! Note that each of the 41 items from this consignor all have this paragraph on them. Condition: good to very good. The right and bottom blank borders of the still were trimmed off but it is otherwise in pretty nice condition. It was attached to the back mat with conservation tape on two places on the back of the top blank border only, and then it was triple-matted. Learn More about condition grades
