Date Sold 2/21/2021 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 25 letters from MGM stars with secretarial signatures. Note that this is something really clever that MGM did in the 1940s for their stars. They printed up personalized stationary for each of them, with their name at the top and their name and "Metro-Goldwyn Studios, Culver City, Calif." at the bottom. Printed in between, but lighter, so it would look like it was hand typed, was a "letter" from that specific star. Then, when they got fan mail, a secretary would sign the letter with the star's name. The one thing they goofed up on (or maybe people weren't so untrusting then) was that they didn't want to have to insert the name of the person who had written to them, so they had pre-printed "Dear Friend:", which is a dead giveaway that it wasn't done individually, or by the star. Offered here is a great group of 25 of these letters. If you saw one of them, you would think that the stars had really signed, but seeing them all together, it makes it clear that they didn't.
