Date Sold 12/19/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1934 (from the first release of this movie in Belgium) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 22 1/4" x 31" [57 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Footlight Parade, the classic 1933 Lloyd Bacon New York City Broadway stage romantic musical ("Another of Warner Bros.' Glittering Parade of Musical Sensations!"; "Surpassing even '42nd Street' and 'Gold Diggers of 1933'"; "Can you even think of missing it?"; "250 of the world's most gorgeous girls and hundreds more of your screen favorites."; "Dance numbers by Busby Berkeley") starring James Cagney (billed on some items as "Jimmy Cagney"), Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, Frank McHugh, Ruth Donnelly, Guy Kibbee, Hugh Herbert, Nancy Lyons, Gordon Westcott, Claire Dodd, Donna Mae Roberts, Renee Whitney, and Bobbie La Salle. Note that this movie had some of the most risque advertising of any movie ever, with many images of girls wearing the skimpiest of costumes (and they were advertised as "one of the 300 reasons why you must see Footlight Parade")! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Belgian poster, and that was 11 years ago. That example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this is a rare "pre-War" Belgian poster. Prior to World War II, Belgian posters were much larger than the ones from after the war, and they are extremely rare (because during WWII, there was a massive paper shortage in Belgium, and they took virtually every poster and map, and printed new posters on the backs of them!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had ink transfer over the bottom half of the title (and a small amount in the right of the top border) and a faint stamp in the background to the right of Powell's head. There was minor wear on the foldlines and in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking (because of the ink transfer, which was a printing defect). The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above (any restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
