Original Vintage Lobby Card (Measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Sappho (released in the U.S. in 1923 as "Mad Love"), the 1921 Dimitri Buchowetzki German/U.S. silent romantic love triangle melodrama ("The famous beauty of a thousand passions"; "The daring drama of a fascinating flirt"; a wild story of a woman who literally drives her boyfriend insane, and when his brother comes to find the woman who ruined him, he does not realize who she is, and she seduces him as well; eventually, he discovers the truth, and his brother escapes from the asylum and strangles her!) starring Pola Negri (in the title role as Dame Sappho), Alfred Abel, Xenia Desni, Ellinor Gynt, and Werner Krauss NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a hand-colored card. In the days of silent film prior to the invention of good quality full-color printing, studios would have lobby cards printed in black and white and then amazingly would hire women to hand-color the cards one at a time (apparently labor was very cheap at the time)! So, each card is colored slightly differently, and the coloring is never a perfect match. Condition: very good. There are minor scuffs and some staining in the image area.
