An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 5 3/4" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) In the Shadows, the circa 1913 silent romantic stage acting melodrama ("A wonderful production in three parts"; "Dramatic - tense - powerful") starring Gene Gauntier (billed as "Miss Gene Gauntier"; "in a captivating role"), and J.J. Clark (billed as "Jack J. Clark"). Note that this was one of the very first productions from the Warner brothers who later formed Warner Bros.! Unfortunately, records of the movies they made at this time are incomplete, and we can't find this movie listed anywhere. We know that Gene Gauntier and Jack J. Clark made at least 59 movies together between 1911 and 1915, and those 59 are listed online, but this one is not, and we don't know how many others are also not listed. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that this is a really incredible herald! This movie dates from around 1913, but I cannot find out any further information about the movie (see above). It IS clear, is that it is surely one of the very first movies that Warner Bros. ever made! It is "in Three Parts", typical of "feature films" of the early teens, and it says "Warner's Features Inc.". What is most intriguing is that it has a logo that says "Warner's Features" with a "W" above a tiny "F" in a triangle. Apparently, this was one of the first logos the company used! I wonder if this movie was not produced solely by one of the brothers, and that afterwards he brought in one or more of his other brothers, and then changed the name of the studio to "Warner Bros." (NOT "Warner Brothers", as it is often mistakenly referred to), and changed the logo from the single "W" to the universally recognized "WB". I think this is an incredible piece of movie history, and hope other people feel the same way, and that this ends up in a museum or institution of some kind. Note that in 2004, we were consigned two similar heralds, from super early Warner Bros. movies from the same time period ("Tracked by Wireless" from 1912 and "When Men Hate" from 1913), but otherwise, we have never seen any movie paper from any of these early 1910s movies produced by the Warner Bros. If anyone has additional information any of these movies, these heralds, or about the early history of Warner's, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good.
