An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 43 1/4" x 58 1/4" [110 x 148 cm]) (Learn More) Daddy Number Two, the 1919 silent juvenile comedy short starring Marie Osborne (billed as "Baby Marie Osborne"), and Sunshine Sammy Morrison (billed as "Ernest Morrison"). Note that Marie Osborne was born in 1911, and she first appeared in a short in 1914 at the age of 3. The following year, she starred in several shorts as "Baby Marie Osborne", and she became quite popular, making around 30 movies. She had a very recognizable "Dutch Bob" haircut, and surprisingly, she was able to continue as "Baby Marie" all the way until she was 8. At that point she retired, but she appeared in minor or cameo roles in a number of movies in the 1930s and 1940s. She lived all the way until 2010, when she passed away at the age of 99. But what is especially cool about this movie is that it also stars one of the first great black African American child stars, Sunshine Sammy Morrison! He got his start in a 1917 Baby Marie movie called "Captain Kiddo" (after a tiny uncredited role), at the age of 5, and he appeared in a total of nine movies with Baby Marie. This was her second to last movie, and after her final movie, where they also appeared together, she retired, and Sunshine Sammy went on to become an incredibly successful child actor. In 1922, he joined Hal Roach's "Our Gang" in the first Our Gang short, and became a major star of that series. In 1926, when he was 14, he retired from movies. He made a brief comeback in the 1940s, but after serving in World War II, he made just a few more movies and then left show business entirely, working in an aircraft assembly plant (and leaving show business might help explain why he lived for 30 more years, passing away in 1989 at the age of 76!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at some crossfolds and many creases, tears, and paper loss on parts of most foldlines, and there had been some tape repairs as well. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and while you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, the poster still displays pretty well just as it is!
