Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 7 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4") (Learn More) Hearts and Spurs, the 1925 W.S. Van Dyke silent cowboy western (based on the story 'The Outlaw' by Jackson Gregory) starring Buck Jones, Carole Lombard (billed as "Carol Lombard"; in her fourth credited movie role!), William B. Davidson, Freeman Wood, and Jean La Motte. Note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were. Condition: good to very good. the slide has a horizontal crack in it approximately 1/2" from the bottom of the glass other than the crack, there are slight imperfections in the image area; the cardboard holder is in nice condition but has slight rust stains around the staples (typical of glass slides) and some smudges Learn More about condition grades
