An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 4 pages). Also included is a herald that has one page. (Learn More) Blue Surfari, the 1969 Milton Blair surfing documentary ("It's all new!"; "See surfers ride the largest waves ever filmed around the world"; "Hilarious snow antics by champ surfers"; "Surf Queen Pageant!"; "Take a wild ride in a dune buggy!"; "All in living color"; narrated by Hal Buckley) starring Ricky Grigg ("World Surfing Champion"), Greg Noll ("Worlds Foremost High Wave Rider"), Sue Peterson ("Miss Teenage Fair"), John Teague, and Frenchie. Note that this film was first released as "Surfari" in 1967, but we have never seen any promotional material for this release except for newspaper ads from New York. We suspect that it had a very limited release in 1967 (perhaps just in New York), and only had a wide release in 1969 as "Blue Surfari". A knowledgeable collector tells us that this film "is a mish-mash of older footage shot over the previous years, as a result, serious surfers took little notice of it because the footage was out-dated, although most of the surfers were highly credentialed at the time. Its one saving grace is that the giant wave that was famous in the opening credits of the original Hawaii Five-O television series was lifted from this film's footage." Important Added Info: Note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald that was included with it, and it is pictured next to the pressbook below. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. Learn More about condition grades
