An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) Clash By Night, the 1952 Fritz Lang romantic love triangle crime film noir ("They called it love! But that isn't what the whole town whispered... nor the ugly name the husband gave it when he found out... too late!"; "'Livin' in my house! Lovin' another man! Is that what you call bein' honest? That's just givin' it a nice name!'"; "Based on the play by Clifford Odets"; "Screenplay by Alfred Hayes") starring Barbara Stanwyck, Paul Douglas, Robert Ryan, Marilyn Monroe, J. Carrol Naish, Keith Andes (billed as "introducing Keith Andes"), and Tony Martin. Note that after Marilyn Monroe's great success at the start of the 1950s, 20th Century-Fox, who had her under contract, wisely found small parts for her in lots of their movies in 1951 and 1952! Important Added Info: Prior to paperbacking (see below for more about this process), the poster was never folded. There were two 3" creases in the center of the top of the poster extending through Ryan's hair and pinholes, creases, and smudges around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great! What is "Paperbacking"? It is a process similar to linenbacking that is used to preserve some sizes of movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), the foldlines almost completely vanish, and the posters are far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a paperbacked poster). When paperbacking is done correctly, it often adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! The difference between paperbacking and linenbacking is that when a poster is paperbacked it is solely mounted onto Japanese rice paper (or a thin stiff backing). Why paperback a poster instead of linenbacking it? Some collectors prefer paperbacking because the poster looks and feels more like an unbacked poster, but there is no right or wrong to this, as it is just a matter of personal choice! Generally, collectors usually paperback posters that were originally on a heavier stock of paper, and linenbacked posters that were on a thinner paper stock. Condition: very good.
