Darryl F. Zanuck's Island in the Sun, the 1957 Robert Rossen Caribbean interracial romance romantic tropical island melodrama ("The people, the events of the international best-seller are on the screen!"; "The place is the West Indies... where the sun hides many things!"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; with screenplay by Alfred Hayes; based on the novel by Alec Waugh) starring James Mason, Joan Fontaine, Dorothy Dandridge, Joan Collins, Michael Rennie, Harry Belafonte ("as Boyeur"; the singer in his third movie role!), Diana Wynyard, John Williams, Stephen Boyd, Basil Sydney, and Patricia Owens. Note that this movie contained an interracial kiss, which sadly caused quite a stir (a decade later, a similar kiss between William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols was still causing controversy, a sad commentary on America's view toward race relations in the 1950s and 1960s).
