An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Prince and the Showgirl, the 1957 Laurence Olivier English/U.S. romantic rich-man-poor-beautiful-girl comedy ("There's only one Marilyn Monroe but there isn't one Marilyn Monroe picture that teases and tickles like Marilyn Monroe starring with Laurence Olivier in Warner Bros.' 'The Prince and the Showgirl'"; "Some countries have a medal for Everything"; "A Film by Marilyn Monroe Pictures Inc."; "Screen Play by Terence Rattigan"; about a showgirl in a mythical European country, who causes scandal when a prince tries to seduce her) starring Marilyn Monroe (in the title role as Elsie), Laurence Olivier (in the title role as the Prince Regent), Sybil Thorndike, Richard Wattis, David Horne, Jeremy Spenser, Jean Kent, Vera Day, and Margot Lister NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Bill Gold & Richard Avedon Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had a Canadian censor stamp at the bottom of Monroe's dress and at the top center of the poster. It is impossible to know whether it already had the other defects or acquired them later, but either way, someone backed the poster onto a very thin linen with no excess, and it also has stains in three borders and many creases scattered throughout, more so in a line across the center of the figures and extending to much of the left border. The poster also acquired water stains in the bottom, covering most of the right of the credits, and extending into the bottom of Monroe's dress and their hands. There is some small paper loss scattered down the right of the poster, and a tiny bit in the other borders. The poster can be easily removed from the thin linen (it is already separating), and it may be able to just be "pulled apart". Afterwards, any talented restorer could surely properly linenback the poster, removing much of the staining through chemical means, and performing paint restoration to whatever stains remain. The linenbacking process will remove much of the creasing and the two censor stamps can be painted over. So while it can be "rescued", please carefully read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
