After you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Who will be his bride tonight?"; "The terrifying lover who died... Yet lived!"; "The chill of the tomb won't leave your blood for hours... after you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Don't dare see it... alone!"; "All New! In Brilliant Technicolor!"; "Screenplay by Jimmy Sangster"; "From the novel by Bram Stoker") starring Peter Cushing (as Doctor Van Helsing), Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, Carol Marsh, Christopher Lee (in the title role "as Dracula"), John Van Eyssen, Valerie Gaunt, and Janina Faye. Note that this was the very first of the Hammer Dracula movies! Given how popular they are today, it seems surprising that it took two years to make a sequel (The Brides of Dracula in 1960), and even more surprising that Christopher Lee did not reprise his role (David Peel took over in this one). To be fair, Christopher Lee had played Sherlock Holmes in the interim, and that was probably more interesting to him. Hammer and he didn't return to Dracula until 1966 with Dracula: Prince of Darkness, and there were five more Dracula Hammer movies between 1968 and 1972! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been seen multiple times in two versions. They are completely identical to each other except that one has a bluish background and the other has a greenish background. Since I have been consigned both posters from theater owners who showed this movie on its first release, I think they simply printed both versions on its first release, and that they are both original release. The poster offered here is the green background version. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top two crossfolds and four small areas of paper loss on the bottom crossfold. There were creases and scuffs in the bottom of the right border, extending into the green background. There was paper loss and a tear near the center of the bottom credits area. There was fine surface paper loss on parts of several foldlines. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above (any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
