An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel Movie Poster (measures 45 1/4" x 62") (Learn More)

Jour de Fete (released in English-speaking countries as "The Big Day"), the classic 1948 Jacques Tati French postman mail comedy ("Rollicking fun for everyone"; "Delicious French burlesque"; about the postman in a small French town, who delivers mail on a bicycle, and is mocked by the residents, but everything changes when he watches an American movie about improvements in the U.S. Postal Service, and he tries to implement some of those improvements in his town, with very mixed results) starring Jacques Tati, Guy Decomble, Paul Frankeur, Santa Relli, Maine Vallee, Roger Rafal, Jacques Beauvais, and Delcassan. Note that director/star Jacques Tati had been a comic and pantomimist in French theaters in the 1930s, and during France's occupation in World War II, he lived in a small French town where he got the idea to make a short film about the postman in that town, and it never was finalized, but after the war, he revived the idea and turned it into this, his first feature film! Since that time, he has only made a handful of additional films, but everyone agrees he is a comic genius!

Artist: Rene Peron
Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this French one-panel measures 45 1/4" x 62" and is linenbacked.

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration.

The poster had minor creases, smudges, and a very few tiny tears along some foldlines. There were some faint smudges and scuffs throughout the image. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great!
