An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, the 1958 Nathan Juran (billed as "Nathan Hertz") science fiction (sci-fi) giant female monster horror thriller starring Allison Hayes (in the title role as the 50 foot woman), William Hudson, Yvette Vickers, Roy Gordon, George Douglas, and Otto Waldis. Note that the posters for this movie have wonderful Reynold Brown artwork of a giant scantily clad woman standing over a highway, and it is rightly regarded as one of the finest poster images of the 1950s. One wishes one could say the same about the movie itself, but alas, that is not true! But the poster for this movie is surely one of the most memorable ever created!

Artist: Reynold Brown
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the most popular 1950s horror/sci-fi images ever (because of its wonderful wacky Reynold Brown art), and surely many existing examples were displayed on fans' walls from 1958 through the 1970s, when the value of the poster was not that high. Many of those were likely ripped off the walls and discarded when the owners moved, and the ones that weren't surely had varying degrees of fading, tears, tape stains, etc. So we wonder how many of the surviving ones are in generally nice condition, especially without fading. Collectors have put a great premium on finding this poster in nice condition, and in 2013 we auctioned an unrestored excellent condition example for $19,000! We know that although THIS example has been linenbacked, it only had pretty minimal restoration of the defects described below, which are not very significant at all (certainly, many examples of this poster that have been linenbacked have had far more restoration than this example, and some have been extensively restored).

UPDATED 10/31/2021: Note that although the overall condition of this poster is unchanged ("very good"), the description of the defects the poster had before restoration HAS changed. Why? Because our consignor told us he had purchased this from us, and we accidentally copied the "pre-restoration" condition from a different example of the poster we had auctioned. The incorrect description mentioned "the title of the movie was written on the back of the bottom center and slightly bled through to the front", and this is NOT true of the poster being auctioned. As now noted below, this example did have "tiny pinholes in the center (in the girl's arm), with a 3/4" tear in her arm caused by rough removal of the pins". Neither defect was very significant, and both posters were otherwise in pretty nice condition, and both now display quite well, which is how we were able to make this mistake (and we apologize for our error). The correct pre-restoration description is now on this poster, and it WILL display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had extremely tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny pinholes in the corners and in the center of each border. It had tiny pinholes in the center (in the girl's arm), with a 3/4" tear in her arm caused by rough removal of the pins. Other than the above defects, the poster had very minor fold wear and was in really nice condition prior to linenbacking. This is a really nice example of this poster that has only the tiny pinholes and one small tear, and virtually no paper loss. The poster was well backed, and displays fantastically!
