She was born in 1883 to an important Massachusetts family, the Nutters, and she was a direct descendant of the second and sixth presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams. But she loved performing, and at 14, she quit school to become an actress! She had great success on Broadway in the 1910s and 1920s, and she had a great deal of success in movies in the 1930s, in comedies, mysteries, and dramas. Sadly, she became ill in 1942, and although she seemed to recover, she then passed away in her sleep, and she was only 59 years old, and it was on her birthday. Some of her movies include: Little Women, Alice in Wonderland, Drums Along The Mohawk (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), and Pride and Prejudice Condition: good to very good.
