An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13" x 30" [33 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) The Affairs of Susan, the 1945 William A. Seiter romantic comedy ("Susan is such a flirt she doesn't know when to stop - getting engaged! But... They can't win"; "Original story by Thomas Monroe and Laszlo Gorog"; "Susan's engaged... to four men at once", "She's a tantalizing tease who can't say no when the men say please!"; about a woman about to be married, but her fiancee finds out about her past from three past boyfriends, and questions his future with her) starring Joan Fontaine (in the title role as Susan), George Brent, Dennis O'Keefe, Don DeFore, Rita Johnson, and Walter Abel NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this Australian daybill, and only one in the last 19 years! The buyer of one of those had the poster linenbacked, and they have now reconsigned it to us, so this is still only one of two examples we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. Note that, while this poster was printed in Australia, it was specifically made to be used in New Zealand. This was not an uncommon practice and we have seen many examples. These posters often lack the printed rating which can be found on the Australian version of the poster. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had paper loss in the upper left, extending into Fontaine's arm and the edge of her dress. It had some light staining on that fold and light staining in the left of the bottom blank border. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
