An Original Vintage Unfolded World War I Poster (measures 30" x 39 3/4" [76 x 101 cm]) (Learn More)

Columbia Calls, the 1916 U.S. World War I (WWI) military recruiting poster ("Enlist now for U.S. Army. Nearest recruiting station"; note that this poster includes a poem by Frances Adams Halstead) encouraging men to join the Army, and featuring Frances Adams Halsted and Vincent Aderente art of Columbia (an early symbol for America) standing on a globe and holding a flag and a sword. Interestingly, at the top of the poem is a swastika. Of course, in 1916, this was in no way a negative symbol, for this was long before Adolf Hitler thought to adopt this sign as the symbol of his Nazi party!

Artist: Vincent Aderente & Frances Adams Halsted

Condition: good. The poster has stains, small tears, and some paper loss along portions of the edges, very slightly affecting the image. It has some rippling scattered throughout. This is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration! It is likely that many or most of the stains can be removed chemically, and after proper restoration the poster will look fantastic, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
